Langlois and Zales (1992) reviewed over 700 research papers to describe a profile of an effective classroom teacher, and it includes:
- high expectations of student achievement
- careful delineation of course methods and routines
- varied and appropriate teaching methods and materials
- a supportive, cooperative atmosphere
- enthusiasm, energy, caring, and maintenance of a nonthreatening atmosphere
- a manifest belief that their subject is important
- relating instruction to student interests
- content expertise
