Langlois and Zales (1992) reviewed over 700 research papers to describe a profile of an effective classroom teacher, and it includes:
  • high expectations of student achievement
  • careful delineation of course methods and routines
  • varied and appropriate teaching methods and materials
  • a supportive, cooperative atmosphere
  • enthusiasm, energy, caring, and maintenance of a nonthreatening atmosphere
  • a manifest belief that their subject is important
  • relating instruction to student interests
  • content expertise
