  • Copyright and Fair Use
    September 15 (Tuesday) from 12:30-1:30 in CTE by Becky Rutherford
    Learn about all aspects of copyright law and the Teach Act, including Fair Use guidelines to better understand your options and how that affects teaching and the classroom.
     
  • Brown Bag
    3rd Wednesday of each month (Sept. 16) from 12-1 in J381 by Julie Newell
    One lunch hour per month. Anyone teaching at SPSU is welcome. Bring your lunch and join the conversation—a great opportunity to share successes, discuss challenges, and encounter useful new ideas. The topics come from the attendees, but we always run out of time before we run out of conversation!
  • Basics of GeorgiaVIEW Vista 9: Part II
    Target Audience: New Users
    Prerequisites: We recommend that you attend the Basics of GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8: Part I workshop prior to attending

    Date/Time: September 16th 12-1pm, September 25th 10-11am, September 30th at 12-1pm

    This is an introductory hands-on workshop designed for first-time users and for those who would be helped by an overview of GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8 functionality. Users will be given an overview of the interface and will be guided through the process of setting up a new course, organizing and creating content, and sharing it with students. After completing this workshop, you will be able to:
    • Use the Build tab, Teach tab, and Student tabs appropriately.
    • Customize the overall appearance of your course by editing header and footer, changing the course tools menu, changing colors, etc.
    • Add files and content items to the Course Content Homepage.
    • Add folders to the Course Content Homepage.
    • Use ActionLinks to change items (hide/show, rename, drag and drop, move, download, etc)
    • Create content using Vista tools and share content with students.
  • Respondus and Assessment Tool
    Target Audience:  Current users of GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8        
    Prerequisites: We recommend that you attend the Basics of GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8 part II workshop or be familiar with GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8
    Duration: 2 hrs

    Date/Time: Sep 21st 3-5pm, Sep 29th 9-11am

    In this workshop, we will examine assessment creation and administration using Respondus and the corresponding Assessment tool. Exams can be created offline using a familiar Windows environment, and then moved to GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8. After completing this workshop, you will be able to:
    • Determine when to use Assessment tool and when to use Respondus.
    • Create Multiple-choice, True-False, Paragraph, Matching, Short answer, and Fill in the Blank questions with the Assessment tool.
    • Format your exam in Microsoft Word 2007 so that it is compatible with Respondus.
    • Create exams from multiple question sets.
    • Publish exams to GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8.

     

  • What is Sustainability anyway?
    September 23 (Wednesday) from 2-3 in CTE by Julie Newell
    This is an open panel designed to unpack the definition of sustainability and then connect it with a variety of teaching issues.

    This session will give an overview of learning management systems and provide the steps needed to get started in GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8. The focus will be on getting your computer and browser tuned up, what the tool offers to you and your students, and will provide demonstrations rather than hands-on training. After completing this workshop, you will be able to:
    • Identify benefits of using a Learning Management System for completely online classes, hybrid classes, and enhancing your face-to-face class.
    • Setup your computer and browser to run Vista smoothly.
    • Access and login to GeorgiaVIEW Vista 8.
    • Get support for technical issues, login problems, and help with course design.
    • Identify the areas on your My GeorgiaVIEW page and change your settings.
    • Identify all the tools that are available to you and determine how each one affects student learning.
